Broken map update process

The Navigon apps are a useful (if no longer uniquely so) navigation system, but the process of maintaining them has become a nightmare. Any time anything gets updated, the map manager, instead of downloading updated material, tells me that "An error occurred while registering your device. Please contact the NAVIGON customer service." No way to get past this. And in at least two instances recently (once for Europe and once for NA), no more old maps, either! The only recourse was to delete everything, and download it all again, application, maps, 3D supplement, etc. (enormously time consuming). And now it refuses to recognize that I have already paid for Traffic information, sending me into an endless cycle of "Restore Purchases" and request for App Store password. Pfooey. And WHAT "NAVIGON customer service"?
