NAVIGON Europe App Reviews

Disappointed

Very disappointed with the app. Missed a few places in Europe.

Добавьте карту России

Добавьте возможность скачать (купить inApp) карту России. Ведь треть страны находится в европе. Add the ability to add maps of Russia (innapp for the money paid). After all, the third part of Russia is in Europe.

Better than other, but there are ways to improve

Please improve next things: - Add colour coding (or other) on roads to visualise speed limit, so drivers could plan their stops. There are no places to stop on areas with speed limit 110, and it is not highway that is blue on map. - Add sound notification when your speed is lower than by sign (you can also fill sign with green colour for example). - Make speed limitation sign 50-100% bigger. 90% of route is usually straight line, so map area can be used for other useful in context information. - During long straight areas you can show speed dial with marked speed limit: it will be more informative for driver than speed limit sign. - Often there is need skip some song, so driver has to disturb and switch to Music player. But can be added just one button. - Add possibility to change application language in settings (or select language of voice). - Keyboard for address search is too small, competitors for example hide letters while you’re typing. - Make user tests in real environment (during driving it is difficult to see those small objects). Hope my feedback will help you differentiate more from competitors. It is not cheap application, so I believe soon will see those improvements alive.

Does not work (crash)

Does not work (crash) at iPhone 4S/iPad 3 gen. iOS 7.1.2 :: Вылетает на iPhone 4S/iPad 3 gen.!!! Please fix bug!

Useless in Munich

Route planning is awful: does not consider pedestrian zones, changes in traffic signs, etc. In fact, route planned with native iOS app takes 30 mins, with Navigon the same route takes 1.5 hrs. ETA forecast does not work properly. Poor navigation around difficult crossings (tunnels, etc). In additional to all these drawbacks the app is quite expensive. Just to sum up: I would not recommend purchasing this app, at least for using in Munich.

The best, but improve the AW app

This is definitely the vest navigation avaiable on iPhone. However please improve Apple Watch application to be able to run on background same as Apple Maps. Thanks!

Fresh maps

I have bought your app for 99 USD, why I need to pay for Fresh Map update? Absurd

Need to work on the software to manage map updates

I like the capability and features of the app. However, every time there is a refresh, the maps are so large that it takes a long time for the download. Also I would expect that once you start the update process, the download will happen in the background but I am not sure this is the case since I tend to give up after waiting for a long time and grabbing up to see no real progress. For such an expensive app, without ability to have fresh maps in a more straight forward way, it is not worth the investment

A good app

But for 80 euros i dont want to have in app purchases, Also we are in October 2016 and the maps are still Q1 2016

Great app!

Very reliable app! The UI is friendly! Everything is very informative and well organized. The most critical reviews say we should pay for update that is actually not true! Great job guys!

Piece of cr@p. Do not buy!

Am in Europe now and prior to leaving for here I purchased this app. I have TRIED to use it in Ireland/France/Germany/ & Switzerland. Nothing!!!!! Just sits there, I have not once gotten a signal. On top of a open air bus in Munich for one hour and nothing! Really let down by this. Isnt this supposed to be able to be used without a data connection?? Am I missing something. I am really going to take this up with Apple. I feel seriously let down by this. I really really needed navigation. I would have brought my old GPS unit if I had thought this piece of crap was going to let me down so badly. Follow on.... As per Navigons instructions, you have to perform a HARD reset and then restore your phone, which is near impossible when you are traveling without your pc. In the event that does not work, apparently Apple will give you a new phone!! I doubt that. Also very disappointed in apples response, which is " take it up with Navigon". Nice work both of you.

Not working any longer

Since days no connection to the server - useless!

Works well and better price model than TomTom

I own TomTom GPS hardware and think TomTom is great however their price model for mobile devices requires you to buy their software for every device you own. Navigon only requires one license per iTunes account and you can install it on multiple devices using the same account. My wife and I have iPhones and a shared iPad so TomTom would be very expensive. I dont understand everyone else complaining about paying for map updates. Its not a huge expense and all other navigation companies charge for maps (try upgrading maps in your in-car GPS!). As far as actual navigation goes, Navigon seems to work ok. The only time it steered me wrong was when I was missing a map that would have given me a shorter route (you can unload maps to save space).

What once was great… has fallen

This review is for the iPad Navigon Europe version 2.0.2 build 34. I just downloaded FreshMaps XL (an available option to download updated maps regularly). Im traveling to Heathrow Airport and am staying at a nearby hotel. I put the hotels information into the app and it crashes just as the route starts to appear. No matter what way a enter the destination (as POI or address) it crashes. Every time. How the heck am I supposed to get there now? When you remove the app from your iPhone or iPad you have to give yourself some time to download the maps all over again, so prepare yourself. AND make sure you are near a wifi hotspot! Now, after the most recent crash, my apps no longer show up in a nice neat grid on each page. They are floating up in the top left corner of one of the pages. Its broken my iPad!! Ive never had this trouble with the app before. As others have alluded to, the app once was quite good, but this stability problem has eliminated that opinion for me. Other destinations dont cause it, just that one. Ive even put in nearby locations and the route shows up fine. What the.. ?

Great if you want to add 40% to travel distance

Used version 1 extensively, and just tried version 2 on my first long trip. It was unbelievably long with its suggestions, with the worst case of an additional 400km to the 1000 km journey in Norway-Sweden calculated on google maps. This was repeated over even short distances (~200 km) in Sweden. I contacted the customer service first, but just received a clear cut-and-paste job (different fonts for my name and the reply text). They said basically to buy a new map, even though these roads are over twenty years old. Although, it could just be possible that the road coverage in Sweden outside the big cities is just extremely poor. I will just buy a normal GPS (not garmin now!) and use that in europe to avoid these crazy route calculations. Really sad about this app I used to love...

Inconsistently helpful

OK, first Ill say that while travelling in Italy with the very latest version of this app, we couldnt have found several restaurants without it. That being said, this version is a disappointment. Repeatedly it told us to make a U-turn while on the Autostrada, but we were following its directions, and if we travelled another 100 meters or so, it said "Follow the road for X kilometers." It added about 2 hours to a 4 hour round trip from Lugano to Interlaken (Switzerland, and I purchased the Swiss map). Repeatedly it would tell us to turn right or left (take your pick) while on the map it clearly showed that we should turn the opposite direction. When we followed the voice prompts they were wrong. If we followed what was on the map, it was right (most of the time). I use the North America version and it seems much better. Last year I had used the earlier version of this app in Spain to much better success. Im searching for an alternative if this doesnt improve. It really frustrated us on this trip to Italy.

Why sell out?

It was a great app.....I have the Navigon of North America and for Europe since the first versions came out. I have consistently blown taxi-drivers out of the water and enjoyed comparing "my" solutions to the expensive GPS systems installed in friends cars. My iPhone and Navigon were just better. I could use it walking, on my motorcycle or in the car. Incredible. Now it seems that the people at Google, after buying a great product, are interested in making it theirs, but the quality has decreased, while they add bells and whistles that just dont cut it. The jury is still out and my recent update informed me that I was entitled to this update, as I was an earlier subscriber. I hope this continues and that improvements return. My latest trip, on a scooter through Paris, with the iPhone against the "dash" and the front screen, with earplugs in, amazed my Parisian host, taking me through small streets like I was a native and knew all the short cuts. When I missed a turn, because it said "turn left now" 20 meters after the intersection, it quickly recalculated and got me back, without U turns. Using it walking was miserable and I went back to the map function on the iPhone, which is brilliant for walking. So on balance, it gets a 4, but the jury is out and I will revert after using the latest updates..... I understand at Apple is switching to TomTom instead of maps, so that will be interesting to compare, as the old Navigon was better in my opinion.

Error downloading maps

Maps doesnt work and give error, right now it is useless!

Totally taken care of

Fantastic. Got us un-lost many, many times. Highly recommended! Features needed (FYI, Serena is the automated voice that provides audible instructions): - verbose mode - Serena could be more reassuring, speaking up more frequently, especially after traveling quite a few miles with no feedback or instructions. "Youre on the right road. Carry on." Or, "Im still here, youre doing fine..." - built in Help system - explaining all of the options and how to use them. A URL to a site with videos would be great as well. - tourist mode - Serena should verbally notify the user of the various points of interest that have been selected in the Settings. "You are approaching the Lake District Botanical Garden, operated by the National Trust. Entrance is on your right in one half mile." Or, "There is a turnout in 100 yards that provides a stellar view of Coniston Water." - attitude mode - Serena is so patient that she drives us nuts. If I set my Settings to Snarky, she might be able to cut loose a bit, and tell me in no uncertain words that "You missed the bloody turn for the third time! Are you paying attention? Would you like me to drive?" Etc.

Unusable after iPhone 5 Upgrade

This app worked on my iPhone 4 (though I used it only two or three times). After replacing my iPhone 4 with an iPhone 5, the Map Manager shows an error while registering the device. The message says to contact the NAVIGON customer service, but provides NO details on how to do that. After searching the Navigon website, I found some way to send a form to NAVIGON customer service. I did this weeks ago, but have received no response. I have to take a trip tomorrow to Switzerland, and now Im going to have to pay for a GPS in my car. Color me not happy. - UPDATE - I clicked around again on the Garmin website and found a page that listed phone numbers. I was able to call customer support in North America. The gentleman who answered the phone was very polite and helpful. He apologized about my original e-mail not receiving a response and said it might be related to NAVIGONs acquisition by Garmin. He then provided me with a very simple solution to my problem which was to delete the app from my phone and redownload it from the iTunes store. I did that, and Im back in business.
